Guest Critique with Jean-Philippe Vassal

Friday, June 5th, 2009

We had the pleasure to discuss some of the studio projects with Jean-Phillipe Vassal, from Lacaton&Vassal Architects, Paris, and former ADIP guest professor (2007-2009). the discussion will help to develop the projects further, comments were like: ‘look at the place first as it is right now and than take it from there’ (elba’s, laure’, catailyn’s project), ‘first comes a good dinner’ (ivan’s and jakob’s project) and ‘maybe we talk too much about public space’ (niklas’s project). we enjoyed it and so did jean-philippe.in the studio

Can U fail?

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Also to clarify: I have been asked whether one can fail this design studio? Well, the thing is that you have to build your argument and develop your project in such a way, that you are able to convince me, but more important, to convince all the other critics, especially the guest critics. The guest critics are important, as your mark will be a mix of my assessment and the assessments of those guests, so with i.e. 4 guests, my assessment will only account for 20%; so, yes, technically you, of course, can fail this studio. Especially if you can’t demonstrate a true engagement with the project and the studio’s scope.

Things to come / not much time left!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Just to make you aware of some details, especially for the one’s who did not come for a tutorial today: next week are tutorials, the last tutorials before the MID_SEMESTER Presentation, that is in two weeks time, on June 19. From the handout  you are all aware that the MID_SEMESTER presentation counts 25% of your mark. Following the Midsemester Crit will be a lecture on the Mobile Academy and Schwarzmarkt Archiv, by Hannah Hurtzig.

There will be another week with tutorials after MID_SEMESTER presentation, but that is the last one before the FINAL PRESENTATION, in 4 weeks time, on Monday July 6. FINAL SUBMISSION is on Monday July 27, a week later than initially announced.

so, in total, get into gears, as there is not much time left!!!

My mistake

Tutorial with Jean-Phillipe Vassal

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

This Thursday, June 4th, in the morning we will have Jean-Phillipe Vassal as a guest critic to discuss your projects, in the afternoon i am offering additional tutorials. I believe we might be able to get through 6-7 projects with Jean-Phillipe, so far Niklas, Michael, Caitlyn/Laure/Elba, Antoine and Ivan/Jakob have confirmed their participation in the morning. Please come all at 9.45am, so we can set everything up and do not loose any time, as Jean-Phillipe’s time is limited. Also everyone should come, as everyone can learn from the discussion of all the other projects. More Tutorials in the afternoon.
